JOHN DEERE FACTORY TOURS:

On November 9 we received word that both the John Deere Tractor Assembly plant and the Engine Works will be open for tours. Arrangements are being made to get a bus to make continuous shuttle runs to and from the Tractor Assembly on Thursday and Friday. Transportation to the Engine Works will be a do-it-yourself proposition.

Reservations will need to be made, as there will be a limit of 45 people per tour at the Engine Works and 50 people per tour at the Tractor Assembly. These are the tour times at both locations:

7:30 a.m.  •  8:30 a.m.  •  9:30 a.m.  •  10:30 a.m.
Lunch break  •  12:30 p.m.  •  1:30 p.m.  •  2:30 p.m.

The welcome video will be continuous running, so visitors can watch when they are waiting for next rotation. If there are children in the group, they must be 13 years of age or older to tour. No open-toe shoes, cameras, cell phones, or video cameras allowed. Reservations are required by calling Tractor Assembly at 1 319 292-7668 or the Engine Works at 1 319 292-5347. It is very important that reservations be kept, as this allows the maximum number of people to tour the facilities.

TWO-CYLINDER EXPO XXII
NATIONAL CATTLE CONGRESS GROUNDS
WATERLOO, IOWA • JULY 19–21, 2012

For 2012, we’re returning to the same week in July in which the first Expo was held in 1987. Call it tradition. Based upon many phone calls and in visiting with exhibitors at this year’s Expo, it will probably become necessary to put a limit on the number of tractor exhibits. Since about 270 (plus or minus a few, depending on size) will fit inside the Hippodrome and the exhibit hall, and another 100 or so outside, we’re tentatively setting that limit at 375. It may mean fewer originals; perhaps 10 or 12 rather than 20. And it may mean limiting the number of exhibits representing a certain model within a specific production period, if they are similarly equipped. For example, a 1947–1949 Model “A” with cast rear wheels and tricycle front end.The same applies to all models.

So, it will be prudent to apply early, if at all possible, and get on the list. Correspondingly, applications will be available earlier; probably by late November.

The Swap Meet will be as usual; selected vendors with a good track record of customer service and positive response. Space is limited, so the number of vendors may also need to be limited. Decisions will be made based on past performance and the perceived benefit to attendees.

The Heartland Auction will be expanded for 2012 to include a Memorabilia Auction on Friday. Starting at an estimated 2:00 p.m. and featuring 200-250 items, it will be held in the air-conditioned Electric Park Ballroom at the east end of the Cattle Congress grounds. The tractor, equipment, and parts auction will be held on Saturday, just west of the front of the Hippodrome.

Persons interested in being an Exhibitor or Swap Meet Vendor are invited to contact the Two-Cylinder Club office for applications. Please watch for the announcement in the November–December issue of Two-Cylinder.
